Overview
Yates Group Ltd. (“Yates”) was founded 125 years ago and operates 153 public houses (“pubs”) and restaurants in prime high street locations. The company has both branded and managed outlets in almost every major town and city in the U.K. Yates also owns and operates London’s highest-volume pub.
Strategy
GI Partners acquired Yates from its public shareholders in a high-profile U.K. public to private transaction. Worked with a strong management team to lead the buyout and saw a consolidation opportunity in the sector, which was out of favor with the public market. Opportunity also existed to reposition the Yates brand and attract new customers given the substantial capital expenditures to refurbish and revitalize the properties over the three years prior to the buyout.

GI Partners completed the sale of Yates to a strategic buyer, Laurel Pub Company Limited, in May 2005.
